French-American computer scientist who is well known for his work on Optical Character Recognition and Computer Vision using Convolutional Neural Network (CNNs). Currently serves as the Chief AI scientist at Meta AI. In 2018, he along with Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio won the ACM A.M. Turing Award for their foundational work on Deep Learning. They are sometimes referred to as the “Godfathers of AI.”
A HUGE proponent of World Foundation Models dvanced the idea in a 2022 position paper titled “A Path Towards Autonomous Machine Intelligence”.[2] He argued that intelligence requires predictive models of the world rather than pure pattern matching. LeCun proposed the joint embedding predictive architecture (JEPA) as a practical foundation.
